One of my favorite ways to camp in the summer is to sleep in a hammock. Being elevated allows air to flow beneath you and keeps you cool in the hot summer air. I've had an Eno brand hammock for years, and it is still in excellent condition. Mine is a double nest width, meaning it is built to accommodate two people or give you more space if you're a solo camper. With hammock camping, I recommend purchasing a bug net to keep you safe from any unwanted critters throughout the night. They are easy to install and completely surround your hammock, so you don't have to worry about any pests biting you through the bottom of your hammock.

Hydration is the key to success on any trail. That's why another hiking essential I bring on every trip is my Camelbak. My bag features an internal water pack and flexible straw to access water without stopping and pulling out a water bottle. These hydration packs are also convenient for storing extra water bottles, snacks, safety equipment, or any additional clothing items you may want on hand.

Let's talk about hiking and camping outfits! I feel strongly that no one should have to buy expensive brand-name outdoor gear in order to enjoy the outdoors. The majority of my hiking clothes consist of black leggings, an old t-shirt, and hiking boots. In my personal opinion, if you are going to spend money on any part of your hiking outfit, you should prioritize good footwear and socks over the next trendy clothing item. I've owned a few brands of hiking boots, and my favorite is Merrell! I wear the Moab 2 Waterproof hiking boots and find that they are supportive and offer a wider toe box than normal, so my feet don't feel constricted during my hikes.

In addition to quality hiking boots, quality socks are a must. My feet would constantly blister during short hikes before I knew the importance of good socks. While they are not cheap, merino wool socks have been a game-changer for me in offering support and preventing blisters on my heels, ankles, and toes.

A well-known brand that offers many cute outdoorsy style socks is Darn Tough, which you can find here: https://amzn.to/47j8MCD

I recommend, however, starting with a multipack of wool socks to get your sock stash started: https://amzn.to/4lV2s7Y

New to camping and not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on a large tent? Try a small 2-person tent that is compact and easy to set up. Smaller tents take up less space in your car and allow for easy set up and take down. I've gone on several camping trips in these smaller tents and they usually fit 2 people (and a dog!) pretty comfortably. These tents also come with a rain fly to help protect from the elements.

If reusing a backpack or fanny pack is more your style, I recommend carrying an insulated water bottle with you. My all-time favorite water bottle is my BruMate Era 40- ounce water bottle that is leakproof. There dozens of cute colors and patterns you can choose from, but I personally have the Mocha color so I can add stickers of all the places I've travelled to!
